Actually, she climbed up onto the counter which is next to the fridge and then proceeded to get on the fridge and free the bird. She was a climber... I cried quite a bit, but eventually I got over it. We buried the poor guy in our backyard that day...but at least it wasn't our dog. We used to have 3 black labs, but then as life would have it we lost all 3 in under a year. We had to put down our oldest one (he was almost 11) cuz he was sick, and then our other 2 dogs were stolen that summer from our backyard. Anyway...the youngest one was about 2ish and he provided some great entertainment. If you aimed the hose at him he would jump around and try to drink from it, no matter how hard the water was going. His mother was great at playing fetch, although after awhile the ball would get pretty slobbery and dirty. It was gross, but fun. Then our oldest dog would sit...if he felt like doing so when you told him...and he was mainly just a dog who liked to run around and get some love. One time he got out and went and sat on our back porch, so when I opened the door I jumped in surprise and closed it in his face, cuz I wasn't sure what I was seeing. lol Then I realized it was him and ran out after him, cuz he started to run away and headed down the street. It was great.

I have a friend who's a climber. In high school he would climb the walls of the school and locker room. We all used to refer to him as Monkey Man or Spiderman because he was so good. He's married now, but he can still be as wild and unpredictable as ever.

Poor Marshmallow and poor Pretty Bird. I kinda had a similar experience. Our first cat died this year, back in February, and I was the one who buried him. He was the best cat in the world, we had him for around 8 or 10 years. He had a good life though and simply died of old age. If memory serves he was 13 when he died, almost 14.

Aww...I don't think I could've buried any of my dogs... My dad pinned me to the ground tonight, and then our retriever started licking my face and sniffing my hair. It was kinda fun, cuz at least she wasn't biting. Although, I did have to wash my face again... I have a friend who had a dog that lived to be like 18 or 19ish, and was blind and deaf. But poor guy's gone now.

One of my friends years ago when I was a kid had a cocker spaniel that was blind (and maybe deaf, but I don't remember). I don't know how old it was, but it was getting up there in years. I used to go over to her house all the time to play the Legend of Zelda for the NES. Those were some good times.

Poor dog. I can't imagine being blind, cuz that'd be like walking around with your eyes closed and I'm clumsy enough with them open...
Anywhoo...I have another friend who had a hamster a long time ago that got sucked up into the vacuum.

I have three (semi-indoor-semi-outdoor) cats and two (outdoor) dogs (all boys). The dogs don't stop barking, and I hate them! I really do! They're my sister's so I can't ask to get rid of them. *pouts* But Mom has almost had it with them I know, it's sad that I want them gone. I used to love them just as much as my sister. But man... my throat constantly aches, 'cause I'm the one with the loudest and "scariest" voice - so the task of rousing on them falls to me. I LOVE MY CATS! So quiet! *hugs most docile of 3 cats* So soft and cuddly... Not that I would think of hugging the other 2 :-| Sharp, pointy claws... *goes into catatonic state* sharp... claws... hands... scratch... hurt... *snaps out of it* But I still love them! They're perfectly lovable as long as you don't squeeze them. Then they attack. Thankfully the youngest person in the house (my sister) is 14. But that doesn't stop her from torturing the most docile one though. I swear, you know she's home when he hides under the table or runs to Mom (which is feat in itself -- that cat barely ever moves to get out of his own way). Oh, speaking of which... *lets cat go* Ah, here's something! my cats can climb up brick walls! ;D Well, not these particular ones, but I have had one that could! We had to get rid of her though. She was indoor. Made the place stink. *wrinkles up nose* Ah! *snaps fingers* My animals (all of them) can open doors! And my dogs are both tiny. One's a Jack-Russel cross Maltese Terrior and the other one is a stray and even smaller than him -- and they can both open the laundry door! still deciding if thats good or not. Not that they'll ever go in there with the washing machine going! Not long till the house shifts again and they can't do it anymore. It'll latch properly then! So we won't have to sacrifice socks to use to jam the door closed! *does the happy dance* The cat's open the loungeroom door. I know it doesn't count cause theres on latch on it but still... Actually, I wish they'd learn to close it. It's so damn cold when they let all the hot air out and the heater has to start again! (It's winter here ) Oh well *closes door* I could go on forever But I'm sure we don't want that. As it is, I have to go warm up my aching fingers. *runs to heater*

I can't even think about using a heater now. My immediate family has never been cat-people, so I doubt we'll ever get a cat. If my dog could open doors...then uh...that would not be a good thing. I'd like to see a cat scale a brick wall . Now that would be pretty cool. I'm sorry you don't like the dogs at your house. That is a stinker. The only times I have to really yell at ou dog is when she gets cocky and steals your flip flop or something else that she's not supposed to have and starts running away because she knows that she's not supposed to have it.

Cats are better than dogs. Heh, I've seen a cat climb a brick wall before. It was pretty cool. Hm . . . none of our pets have ever been able to do anything cool like that. Though, I do have a pet goat. Have to give him up tomorrow.

I like both cats and dogs... It's hard for me to have a preference for one over the other. I've only ever owned a dog (and he was the big chunky black lab I mentioned earlier), but I've taken care of neighbors' cats before and liked them equally as much. I think cats just have a different demeanor than dogs. They tend to be a little more reserved. Then again, I would take almost any cat over one of those small yippie "Paris Hilton" dogs any day. I tend not to like little dogs...

Same here. Love big dogs. Hate little dogs. Love cats! I love my grandma's dog, but she has cancer and will be put down by the end of the year.

Oh, I'm so sorry... If it makes you feel any better, my family's considering putting down my lab soon too. The poor animal's got so many problems, and he nearly slipped down a flight of stairs the other day. I guess everybody's got to go eventually, though.
Right, so here are some seriously bad horror stories about the poor, ill-fated animals who have lived with me. I was in second grade (about eight years old probably) and I had my own pet parakeet. I was so irresposible about taking care of the bird, though, that I forgot to feed it for nearly a month, and it ended up starving to death. My bedroom got pretty smelly, and my parents eventually noticed (lol). After the parakeet incident, my parents decided not to let me have high-maintenance pets in my room anymore and opted for a fish bowl instead. So, I got a nice juicy, orange gold fish to take care of... but I had a fascination with touching animals when I was little, so I often took the fish out of the bowl, kind of threw it around like a pancake in my hands, and then would toss it back in the bowl when it got dry.
Well, one week my family went on vacation and spent a week away from the home. When we got back, my fish had disappeared! My parents truly didn't have any idea what happened to it, and the neighbors who were watching our dog didn't know either. A week and a half went by without any sign of my fish, when one day, when I was cleaning my room, I shoved my dresser to the side, and there was my fish, all dusty and gray on the floor! To this day, I've assumed that it was my fish's only means of escape. He committed suicide to avoid me. I haven't owned a fish since then.
Oh, and no worries, I treat Spike, my dog, a lot better than my parakeet or my fish. lol. ;D

Yeah, I hate having to put animals down... We once had a Rotwhieler(sp?) cross German Shepherd. Best dog we ever owned, in my opinion (although he did get a tad aggressive with his food -- the scar on my sisters ankle says it all) but we had to put him down. He had cancer and it was too far gone to operate, and we probably couldn't afford it even if it wasn't... Oh, and I have a pretty sad story about my mom's friend's Rainbow Lorikeet... The bird was new, and she wanted to let it out. So, she did all the right things; closed all the windows, turned the AC off, etc, and let it out. It flew out and straight up to the ceiling... and she had forgotten to turn the ceiling fan off. So, the bird was, as you can imagine, presumed dead. Mom's friend picked it up and went to get rid of it when it started chirping again! But, alas, it was short-lived joy... It gave one last shrill squeek and died in her hands... At least our bird didn't end up like that! We gave her away cause she liked to bite us. She's living in an avery with a collegue of Mom's and is a mother now. Some people shouldn't have birds...

We had a goldfish oce....Well actually we started out with 4 (or maybe 5) and named them all after the N64 Donkey Kong characters, cuz we were really into that game back then. Anyway, the only fish to survive the next 24 hours was named Tiny and he had been brought to my dad's old Sunday school class to show the little kids. Every other fish died. I think we had that fish for at least a year or pretty darN close to it. It stayed in me and blondie's bathroom on the sink. Well, one day we got a whole bunch more goldfish, a fountain to go outside, and we put Tiny in. Well, poor fish jumped out and we didn't find it in time. It was still alive when we put it in the water, but it didn't live much longer. It was kinda disappointing cuz that fish lived the longest out of any fish we had ever owned, but it wasn't too big of a deal. That same summer our bro. brought home his pet snail named Stevo for us to take care of. We fed it and did everything we were supposed to...it hardly ever moved, but then eventually it just kinda stayed in the same place for a whole week...never moving...not even for food. So it was presumed dead and my parents took it to the creek behind our neighbor's house. Poor Stevo. he was a good snail.

My sister told me today that our cat died, not in February, but in May. After thinking for a bit I remembered that it was in May. Cheddar was the best pet in the world. *sniff*
