After discovering that Tiki speaks French in the movie forum ;D, I've decided to start a new thread about languages. I, personally, have only studied French for one year. I studied it at the same time I was studying Spanish. It was during eighth grade. By the time I got to high school, I had to make a choice: French or Spanish. I ended up choosing Spanish. Hace seis años que estudio español. (I've studied Spanish for six years... I'm looking forward to studying it for many more!) Here's my most recent encounter with Spanish: when my best friend and I went to Beatlemania yesterday, we met up with her Youth Exchange Program that helped her get to Japan this summer. There were loads of foreign students there, and one of them was from Chile, Mateus. I tried speaking to him in Spanish, but I'm pretty shy, so I only said a few things. He snubbed me anyway when I tried speaking to him in his native tongue and eagerly talked to Nikki instead. (Jerk... : )

I speak French and English. I dabbled in Latin for a small period of time but never really got very far.

I can speak English, Welsh and French. Only English fluently though. I live in Wales so I've learned bits of it all my life. Studied French for five years in school.

That's awesome, Marshmallow! ;D How long do you plan on studying it?
Tiki, did your parents speak French? Were you raised with it? I think it's so cool that so many people here speak different languages. I never would have guessed...

Ou peut-être je suis français ? Vous n'avez pas pensé à celui-là, huh ? Bien, c'est moi parlant en français, hein, introduisant au clavier français serait plus approprié je supposent. Yeah, I guess you don't really think that many people speak more than one language but I guess that just goes to show you. Et d'ailleurs, je ne suis pas vraiment français mais je parle la langue.

Well, when I was in six grade my school required that you take both French and Spanish just to try 'em out...and I ended up liking Spanish more so that's what I continued to study and I'm takin' Spanish 3 this year...I think I might actually have that class with Marshmallow. At least for the first part of the year. The only thing I remember from French is how to count to three...maybe 5.
If Pig Latin counts for anything, then I can speak that too, lol. And English of course...

I'll decide on how long after this year to see whether I like it or not. If I do like it and want to keep going I'll probably take it all through the rest of high school and maybe even into college. Ia anca peaksa igpa atinla oota!

Why the sad face, Mira? I hope I didn't offend. I didn't mean to if I did and I apologize. You kids and your crazy, pretend languages. Is-un ilet gantet.

Forget about it, Tiki. My bad. My best friend speaks Japanese. She just went to Japan this summer, and she's practically fluent now. She has a Japanese sister staying with her family and a German boy is coming to stay in two weeks. If you really like Japanese culture, I'm sure you would love learning the language, Jupiter. That's what got my girl started; she loved anime, so the Japanese lang/culture classes really interested her. Now she's going into translation. It's really amazing.

I'd have to say the biggest step one can take when learning a language is want to learn it. Have a passion to speak the language and you'll go far. First couple of years whilst I was learning French I wasn't too interested but I started liking it more the third year.
