That sounds pretty reasonable.

I don't know if this has been addressed already or not, but are you going to tally up karma points according to how many posts we already have, or is everything starting fresh? Like, Nova's got over 200 posts; is he going to get 3 karma points for each of those posts he's already made? (Sorry, I'm picking on you Nova! Or, would you start tallying karma points with all new posts made on or after August 14th?

I guess the concept has been a little vague. Your total number of points isn't really what effects you karma points. Your participation in each thing is what is considered for tallying kp. Let me explain.
General postings means that if you post, for the most part, in all forums. If you have participation across the entire thing rather than 'just hanging' out in one area.
Writing Centre participation should be pretty obvious. If you make posts in the writing centre for that week then you get those points. Talk it Up! is a thread in the Writing Centre so if you also participate in that you can get a total of 17 points.
Debate means that you actively participate in a debate. Activly doesn't have to mean more than one post. If you post once for that week and your post furthers the debate it will count.
Story of the Month participation is the most points because that give all of us a chance to read a new story (perhaps old) and talk about what we liked, what we thought, how it could (possibly) be improved. Story of the Month can be found in the recommedation forum.
So, as I said, your total number of posts doesn't really effect this at all. I'll keep track of everyone's participation through the week and then tally up kp, probably on the Saturday, as that is the last day of the week. Anyway, I hope that answers your question and clears everything up. Won't be too much longer.

Well, now that karma points are under way I've noticed an increase in activity. This seems to be working as planned. However, I haven't noticed anything new with the Story of the Month.

Tiki, I just exalted you. I felt bad that nobody had done so yet. Just want you to know you're loved. I'd contribute to story of the month, but I hardly ever read fanfiction... I tend to just update my own story. Maybe that's how it is with other people... I don't know. I just read one recently; it wasn't amazing, though, so I'm going to read the rules before posting a new recommendation thread.

Heh, well, karma points don't really matter for me. Thanks though! ;D I started the Story of the Month in hopes that it would expose the community to good stories. Perhaps, stories that few know about it. Here's a thought: Should it be opened to stories on fictionpress as well?

Mmm... well, if you were going to open up to fictionpress stories, why not open it up to every genre of fanfiction as well? I think it would probably be best to have a separate Zelda story of the month and then an original story of the month.

I like all of my ideas. lol. Seriously, I think the new story of the month threads are much better than the old one. I think the submission rules are a tad confusing (are we only allowed to submit "good" stories or can we submit those that, in general, spark discussion?), but other than that all is well.
I also wanted to recommend maybe creating new game threads in addition to the three-word-story. They have them in the Sanrio forums... games like, "person below you" and "yes or no." Just another idea, though...

Yeah, I know what you mean. Again, I've been playing with this idea so I think I'll implement it. Heh. EDIT: FYI I added up the karma points. Evenyone did pretty well, as you can see with everyone's new karma rating. I counted posts made after the 14th because that was the day that karma points started. Special recognition should go to Marshmallow. She now has the most KP. Why? Because she participated in SotM after the 14th. Congradulations everyone. Let's see what we can do this week.
